Common Misconceptions in Choosing Knitted Sweaters
2026-08-17 12:17:51

Misconception 1: The thicker the sweater, the warmer it is

The core of warmth is the ability of fibers to lock in air, not thickness. A thin pure cashmere sweater provides much better warmth than a thick coarse synthetic sweater. Blindly pursuing thickness will only appear bulky, but the insulation effect may not meet the standard.

Misconception 2: Wool can prick people, but what is pricked is real wool

Ordinary coarse wool does have a prickling sensation, but ultra-fine Merino wool and high-quality fine wool can completely achieve a snug fit without being pricked. Whether to tie or not depends on the fineness of the fiber, not the standard for judging the authenticity of wool.

Misconception 3: The heavier the cashmere, the more valuable it is

The value of cashmere lies in its fineness and purity, not its weight. High quality cashmere is light and fluffy, while thick cashmere sweaters may actually be mixed with coarse wool and synthetic fibers to increase weight, rather than pure cashmere having better quality.

Misconception 4: Kicking is a sign of poor quality

All natural woolen fibers will pill after friction, which is a characteristic of the fibers themselves, not a quality issue. Cashmere and lamb wool have fine and soft fibers, making them more prone to pilling; Ordinary coarse wool has fewer pilling. Normal trimming and reducing friction are sufficient without affecting the wearing life.
